welcome + osteomyology + osteo visits & treatments people's story's gallery sat + history of osteo links find contact about osteo cranial back pain pregnancy babies & children learning difficulties getting older dentistry x history of osteo history of cranial osteo the still point phenomena osteo vs chiropractic my mentor - tom dummer x about osteomyology philosophy of osteomyology osteomyology vs osteo x welcome to still point osteomyology care based in kendal, cumbria, in the beautiful lake district still point was established in 2001 by clifford conway mao (manip) bsc (hons) ost - osteomyologist. i trained at the european school of osteopathy (eso) in maidstone, kent between 1992 - 1996. prior to that i was teaching at a technical college in staffordshire. i moved to kendal after graduating and established two practices in both kendal and kirkby lonsdale. i moved the practice to 2 sepulchre lane - naming it 'still point', in 2001 and have now centralised there over the past twelve years. still point is a small, busy practice based in kendal in the beautiful lake district of england. the practice was chosen for its location in the heart of the town. situated in a narrow cobbled lane just opposite quiggins kendal mint cake factory, still point is slightly elevated overlooking the roof tops towards kendal castle, bensons knott and whinfell in the distance ( see gallery ). situated next door to the fellside centre alexander training school, still point is a peaceful, calm and tranquil place shown in two of the scrolling pictures above. the open aspect to the town and hills gives the practice a unique quality which i felt was so important for the osteopathic and now osteomyology approach to treatment and healing. being slightly elevated, still point is on a level with the town hall bell tower, and the chimes throughout the day can be clearly heard in the background, which is the only reminder that you are in the town centre. i chose the location of my practice because of the stillness and calm which was so evident to me when i first saw it. as i had progressed through the four year degree at the european school of osteopathy (eso), my interest was always in the direction of cranial osteopathy. an integral phenomenon of the cranial concept had also intrigued me and captured my imagination - the 'still point'. i knew when i found the right location, this would be the name of choice for my practice. see history section, (still point phenomena) if you would like to learn more on this subject. still point can be described as a true family practice, having something to offer all ages, and for a wide variety of conditions. i have a special interest in the treatment of whiplash injuries, which was the basis of my final dissertation. i also have a particular interest in the pre and post-natal care of mothers and babies; also children of any age. early treatment to establish good balance and health in the body sets the scene for continuing health throughout life. treatment is for the most part given using the very subtle and gentle cranial approach, although occasionally also using other soft tissue and manipulative techniques. in december 2010 i decided to move away from the title 'osteopath' - prefering the title 'osteomyologist'. i feel that treating patients as an 'osteomyologist' more appropriately describes the work i now do and have developed since 1992. my journey and my roots began in osteopathy and therefore, essentially, my knowledge and treatment continues with that same influence. it is my own personal development and the spirit of osteomyology that moves me on in that direction ( see osteomyology section ). the aim of this website is to help further educate a population that is becoming increasingly aware of the scope of osteopathy (which was my training and previous professional title since 1992) and now osteomyology. i hope to provide a better understanding of the benefits that treatment may bring in this respect, also through linking to other informative websites. the gallery of pictures will slowly develop as i actively involve further 'willing participants', giving an insight into daily practice life at still point. footnote: for readers of my website, any reference to osteopathy should be seen as historical and part of my training and learning process since 1992. my decision and choice to move away from gosc and practice as an osteomyologist (as explained in section osteomyology vs osteopathy) was made for personal reasons. i am now a proud member of the association of osteomyologists. © all content copyright still point 2009
